Summer Assignment
As an intro to the advanced placement literature course offered at the Galloway School, the rising twelfth grade students are assigned a compilation of selections from A.O. Scott, Warren Berger, Stephen Greenblatt and Maria Popova. These excerpts are included in the AP Lit course pack which each student is given at the conclusion of eleventh grade. The students are asked to individually consider the significance of each excerpt and to record these thoughts in the common place books provided. Finally, the students are asked to produce three reflective blog posts on the matter. On this website I will reflect on the selections in the course pack, make connections from the text to my life, and explain my expectations and speculations about the upcoming year.
About Me Past Experience
In the past I have taken on level ninth, tenth and eleventh grade English and AP US history. APUSH has been one of the most demanding classes I have ever taken and, interestingly, has also been the most writing-heavy class. With the weekly essays for homework and data based questions on the exams I have learned how to write decent essays within short periods of time. I have always enjoyed writing but have struggled with writing quickly, so my obtention of this new skill was greatly influential in my decision to take AP literature.

About MeHopes & Expectations
Throughout my preparation for the ACT I have come to realize my interests in writing and grammar and would like further my abilities. Additionally, I would like to expand my knowledge of classic literature in hopes of better understanding the world around me. I expect this class to be very rigorous and to require my full concentration and participation. I have heard from my peers that in-class participation is especially important, which is a relief to me as someone who enjoys engaging in class-wide discussions.
